2005 ANTHONY WAYNE
SOCCER CAMP A SUCCESS!
In preparation for the upcoming fall season the Anthony Wayne United Soccer Club sponsored the 2005 Anthony Wayne Soccer Camp in conjunction with the Total Soccer Academy.
For the first time in Northwest Ohio, Total Soccer Academy flew in professional coaches from the Netherlands to expose our players to the Dutch Vision coaching philosophy developed by the Royal Netherlands Soccer Association (KNVB) 20 years ago.
In keeping with the “Dutch Vision”, our players learned soccer by playing the game
of soccer and activities relating to the game. The technical, tactical and conditional elements were not separated from the overall game, nor practiced in an isolated manner. All practice sessions evolved from the game in which a certain element was emphasized.
Our objective for the camp was developing and encouraging young players to make the right decisions in game situations. We emphasized the development of individual and team tactics, fitness, and psychological aspects of the game. Our techniques, when applied, create skillful players who perform well under pressure, having learned how to make the right decision at the right moment on the soccer field. We believe that is the key to successful soccer playing. The Total Soccer Academy achieves these objectives through expert coaching provided by selected top Dutch coaches. Participating in this years camp from the Netherlands were:
-
Paul Driesen. Director of the Total Soccer Academy.
-
Pieter Schrassert-Bert. Had his soccer development at PSV Eindhoven, one of the top clubs in Holand. Played professional for FC Den Bosch. Plays for 4th divisionn Club OJC. Youth coach at
OJC.
-
David Vecht. Head youth coach at OJC. Will do an internship this season at the professional Club Willem 2.
-
Rutger Vlaming. Youth coach for several Clubs in the Netherlands.
The following is a statement by Paul Driesen, Director of Total Soccer Academy:
“The Total Soccer Academy was very impressed with the Anthony Wayne Soccer Club’s organization of the camp. Great fields, sign-up went great etc. The number of participants (100 players) was beyond expectation for a first year camp in the area. The Total Soccer Academy hopes to be invited back next year and will also provide a specific goalkeeper coach for the camp. The level of play was outstanding and it shows that these talented players receive great coaching during the year at their Club. The coaches David Vecht, Rutger Vlaming, Pieter Schrassert-Bert and camp director Paul Driesen felt very welcome by the fine young men and ladies they worked with during the week. Also a special thanks to the Cooper family, who hosted the three coaches for a full week in their house. Highlight of the week for the players and the coaches was the Whitehouse Champions League, a tournament that was played each day (3 games per day) and accumulated into a winner at the end of the week, once 15 games were played. The interesting part of the tournament is that not a single team wins the tournament, but one single player. Each of the 15 games one plays with different teammates, against different opponents, and acquires points for oneself.”
Steve Mortemore, President of the Anthony Wayne Soccer Club said “This years camp was held at Nona France fields in Whitehouse, Ohio and was broken into two sessions. The a.m. session was for U8-U10 players and the p.m. session was for U11-U16 players. In addition we had a specific session for goal keepers and the academy held a clinic for our coaches as well. We had 100 players participate and were pleased to hear Paul Driesen from TSA indicate this was their most successful and well attended camp they put on this summer. That speaks highly of our players commitment for improvement here in Anthony Wayne. We hope to expand on this next year and get more involvement form our recreation league and other clubs throughout the area.
