The Anthony Wayne Youth Soccer League was organized in
1978 as a recreational soccer league for the youth in the Anthony Wayne and surrounding areas. It combined the existing boys and girls’ leagues into one to provide the youth a positive environment for learning and enjoying soccer. It adopted the motto
“Just For the Fun of It” and has continued that philosophy since.

The AWYSL is coordinated by a group of volunteers identified as the AWYSL
Board. This Board consists of a Referee Coordinator, Field Coordinator, Equipment Coordinator, Treasurer, Secretary, and Division Coordinators for the eight different age groups. A member of the Anthony Wayne United Soccer Club attends as a representative of their League. They meet eight months out of the year to coordinate the six-week spring and fall seasons. Division Coordinator information is listed on the
registration form.
There are approximately 60 teams of youth ranging from kindergarten through high school. Much of the success of the program has been because of the willingness of parents and friends to volunteer as coaches and assistant coaches. Most games are played at the
Blue Creek soccer fields, Providence Street, Whitehouse, on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. The one or two weekly practice sessions are held during the week at the discretion of each coach. Practice sessions are held a various locations in the community, including parks, schools, churches and homes. Practice sessions are not held at the playing fields to preserve the fields for the multitude of games played there each weekend. As a health and safety issue, there are no animals allowed at the soccer fields.
Each soccer season consists of both spring and fall games. Registrations are available
online at www.awcommunity.com . Each player is responsible for their own equipment, including shin guards,
blue soccer shorts, soccer shirt and soccer socks, available at AllWear,
10802 Waterville St., Whitehouse, OH 43571. Soccer shoes are optional. The League provides equipment location information.
